Semiconductor Junction Diode


In this video lecture, a p-n junction formation and working are explained by using the animation and other scientific tools. As you know that p-n junction is the basic building block of all semiconductor devices. So its understanding is the foundation in the electronics.

is more enjoyable as all other branches of physics. In the first part of the video lecture, the formation of junction diode is explained by using the animation so a beginner can also visualize the facts the how depletion region formed an explanation of the diffusion and drift processes.

Then after the diffusion and drift current on its basis discussed. Understanding of majority and minority charge carriers in n-type and p-type semiconductors and the new concept of barrier potential is introduced clearly so one can understand it for the future purpose where semiconductor devices are explained on the basis of band structures.

Diode Characteristics

What is the equilibrium condition and when the diffusion current equals the drift current? Answered so many questions which arise to understand the working of the p-n junction diode. With the help of a proper circuit diagram, the V-I characteristics are discussed in both the cases whether that is of forwarding or reverse bias.

Here I did also use of dynamic resistance to explain it and show that in reverse bias the semiconductor diode provides the resistance in mega ohms and because of that current flows in only one direction i.e. the forward biasing. At the last, the main application of the semiconductor diode is explained like in Light emitting diode, signal diode, transistor, and in many other electronic devices.
