From Quantity to Quality: Redefining Institutional Approaches to Research Publication

Open Science recommendations by UNESCO are to enhance the knowledge of the people by implementing open science principles through the scientific community. Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Access Publications are part of it. For the promotion, awareness and to sensitize about related components I am delivering/sharing my views and experiences with the knowledge society.
Here, on this page, I have included my recent activities for open Science and its promotion.
TITLE: Two weeks ‘Research and Publication Ethics’ course for scientist trainees.
PLACE: Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi.
DATE: Two weeks; From 25th June to 9th July 2023.
ABOUT EVENT: It was a two-week ‘Research and Publication Ethics’ course for scientist trainees at the Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC), New Delhi, under the UGC guidelines and course content.
The participants were introduced to new possibilities and emerging trends in publications, as well as the importance of scientometric studies. Additionally, the course covered topics such as search engine optimization of research articles, different types of open access, the importance of copyright and licenses, and the role of scientific blogging, Altmetrics, and PlumX tools in research.
Maintaining research integrity, quality publications, and research visibility remains the purpose of any institution. Therefore, it is important to strike a balance between these factors. Individuals should remain aware and able to judge ethical and unethical practices. These topics were discussed with case studies involving authorships, fabrications, falsification, and plagiarism. The importance of post-review and the reasons behind research article retractions were also examined, with live examples from sources such as Retraction Watch and PubPeer. I would like to mention one thing based on personal observations on behalf of this event, research and publications ethics is not just a course, but also a responsibility to sensitize the community and individuals about the importance of moral values. In this event, all lectures were recorded for MOOC course purposes. Thanks to the team and organizer for giving full time for this purpose.
TITLE: Online Workshop On E-Content Development: A Compilation Of Best Practices.
PLACE: Department of Biotechnology, Maharishi Markendeshwar (Deemed to Be) University, Mullana, Ambala.

ABOUT EVENT: I have taken the opportunity to share my views and experiences in this workshop with the scientific community. It was organized by the Integrated Association of Medical, Basic, and Social Scientists (IAMBSS) together with the Department of Biotechnology, Maharishi Markendeshwar (Deemed to Be) University, Mullana, Ambala.
In this workshop, more than 170 participants joined the session and were appreciated by all along with the organizers. Key points that I covered in this presentation were;
- Why do we need to create the E-Content?
- What are pre-planning requirements?
- How we can use copyright and License info to create the e-content?
Dr. Ujjawal Sharma, President, IAMBSS, and Dr. Bunty Sharma, Department of Biotechnology, MMDU organized it very well.
TITLE: Best Practices of Academic Publishing: Journals Establishment

ABOUT EVENT: An invited talk titled “Best Practices of Academic Publishing: Journals Establishment” was delivered at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
This workshop was on “Research Publication: Developing a Professional Approach” for the faculty members who were associated with research publications (journal editors). The best possible way to manage the journals and ethical practices is checked at the end of authors and reviewers by the editor and the editor by themselves. Copyright, authorship, licenses, and types of Open Access along with typesetting challenges were discussed.
TITLE: Space, Earth, and Human Body: Role & Applications of the Magnetic Field

ABOUT EVENT: An invited talk on title “Space, Earth, and Human Body: Role & Applications of the Magnetic Field” on the National Science Day event dated 26th Feb 2022. The Department of Applied Sciences, Chitkara University, Punjab in collaboration with the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and Institution Innovation Council (IIC) organized a National Science Day event. Shared the views on how the earth’s magnetic field impacts brain activity and its interaction with the celestial magnetic field.
TITLE: Lecture Series on Research Publication and Ethics

ABOUT EVENT: The Department of Applied Physics and Ballistics, Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, Odisha organized a Lecture Series-II on Research Publication and Ethics from 7th February 2022 to 28th February 2022. The Series will be inaugurated by Chief Guest: Prof. Santosh Kumar Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor, F. M. University, Balasore in the presence of other dignitaries on 7th February 2022. In this lecture series, all basic to advanced topics are covered by the researchers. At the end of this series, an official exam was conducted to check the understanding and point of view on ethical and unethical academic and publishing practices.

ABOUT EVENT: Chaired and organized an International Online Conference on Innovations and Challenges in Research Publishing at Chitkara University Publications, Chandigarh-9, India. Discussed features, practices, and technology in the present publishing domain. Overall 16 speakers from different geography and domains expert, and more than 200 people from academia, research, and industry participated in this event.
